The College of St. Scholastica – Gerontology

The Gerontology Minor/Certificate Program provides students with a strong foundation in gerontology. It prepares them to work with and advocate for older adults. The program is structure allows students to individualize their courses of study to fit their career needs. Typically students seeking a degree choose to minor in gerontology, those students that are not going for a degree usually choose the certificate. Both have the same requirements.

Requirements for Minor & Certificate

  • Equivalent of 20 credits
  • 2 core courses that are 4 credits each
  • 4 credit field work project
  • 8 credit elective courses
  • Certificate program is available 100% online

Program Outcomes

  • Mastery of the biopsychosocial content area of gerontology
  • Ability to communicate about gerontological matters, demonstrating appropriate application of terms and content.
  • Competency in accessing gerontological research findings and integrating these findings with other scholarly information and personal observations.
