Soar provides affordable, holistic and creative career planning services to job seekers and the career changers in Duluth and the surrounding area.

Re-Entry Services

  • Participants will benefit from mentoring, case management, employment services, and support with issues such as housing and transportation.
  • When given support people will become contributing members of our community, and everyone will benefit. This increases the tax base and the health of our region. It improve relationships and self-confidence. It reduces reliance on public services. Soar helps people find something powerful in themselves.

  • Career Quest Workshop: in-depth workshop will get your career goals on paper, then help you create a plan to target jobs that meet your needs
  • Mind Over Matter Workshop: They use cognitive psychology and social learning theory, but what this 12-hour workshop really comes down to is giving you the strengths, smarts and skills to be your best self.

Job Skills Training

  • IT Basic Support Training: online training that is offered to individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in the IT field, getting their foot in the door for pursuing an education in IT, or finding employment as a Help Desk specialist (or something similar to)
    • In this course, one will study the following topics: computer user support, customer service skills, writing for end users, common support problems, troubleshooting skills, and so much more
  • Certified Nursing Assistant: This course is designed to prepare students for entry level Nursing Assistant positions and serves as an introduction to the nursing sequence for students who choose to advance in the nursing profession.
    • Funding available through a Pathways to Prosperity grant in partnership with Duluth Workforce Development, Adult Basic Education, Lake Superior College, Aftenro and Ecumen Lakeshore
  • CDL Truck Driving: This non-degree certificate program prepares students to successfully pass a commercial driver’s license test. Students completing the certificate develop professional driving skills to qualify for entry-level truck driving positions at area companies
    • Funding available from the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). In partnership with Jeff Foster Trucking, Lake Superior College, Duluth Public Schools, Duluth Workforce Development, and Minnesota WorkForce Center
  • Career Exploration: Like playing a sport, this training is designed to pair you with a job coach where you will learn the ins and outs of the employment world and create attainable employment goals through different career exploration workshops
  • Tools of the Trade: In this 7-week program, you’ll gain hands-on experience, tour apprenticeship training facilities, and learn about careers in the construction trades
    • This program is 36% funded through the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry by a $3.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Also partially funded by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED)
