Damiano Center

The Damiano Center welcomes and serves all people in need without judgement. They are the largest emergency meal provider in Northeastern Minnesota and they have the largest free store in Duluth. They offer programs and services to those in the need in the Duluth community.

Community Kitchen

  • No questions asked for those who come for a meal
  • Day old baker products and produce available for take home
  • Breakfast 8:30 am – 9:30 am (Daily)
  • Lunch 11:30 am – 1 pm ( Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat, and Sun)
  • Dinner 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm ( Mon – Th) 5:00pm – 6:00 pm ( Fri – Sun)
  • To-go meals are available during serving times at the 4th St. entrance

Free Store

  • Store has clothing and household goods free of charge for those in need
  • Hours are Tuesday & Thursday 10 am – 2 pm
  • Must wait outside at the 4th Street entrance to be checked in
  • Donations are accepted by appointment only

Clothes That Work

  • Work appropriate apparel for interviews and for those beginning a new job
  • Must bring photo ID as well as proof of employment once you have a job
  • Shoppers are eligible every 6 months

Health Realization

  • Cognitive skills- based program that helps individuals manage stress and work through barriers
  • This is one of the few alternatives to twelve-step recovery programs in Duluth are
  • Issues this program can help with: Stress management, Gaining a positive perspective, and Chemical dependency

Community Services

  • Provides information and referrals
  • Trained staff specialize in helping people with emergency needs
  • Connections and resources are offered for: homelessness, chemical dependency, domestic abuse, unemployment, and mental health issues
  • Direct services provided: hygiene items, mailboxes for homeless, household items, bus tokens, free telephone line, gas vouchers/ spend-down bus passes ( call for requirements)

Volunteer Opportunities

There are the following opportunities available

Community Kitchen

  • Assist with the preparation and serving of meals and clean up after meal service. Volunteers work in groups of up to five with a cook and dishwasher
  • Pick up baked goods and other foods at Cub Foods (and other locations as needed) and deliver to the Damiano Center for use in meal programs

Kids Kitchen

  • Assist with the preparation and serving of meals
  • Assist or lead activities with the kids and help with clean up

Free Store

  • Assist in acceptance, sorting, and display of donated items
  • Assist donors and shoppers with their needs


Assist in the cleaning and general upkeep of the building
